According to a source in Bercy, the government is working on a budget of 2 billion euros for the vaccination against Covid-19 in 2022, AFP said on Wednesday, confirming information from RTL.

For 2021, the cost of tests and vaccines is estimated at around 10 billion euros.

From mid-October, screening tests without a medical prescription should be paid.

This budget will be presented as part of the Social Security financing bill in the fall, it was specified.

It provides in particular a third dose for populations at risk, such as those over 80 and the most fragile, according to RTL, and while uncertainty remains on the evolution of the Covid-19 pandemic.

A slowing down of appointments

According to figures published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Health, 46,714,974 people have received at least one injection (or 69.3% of the total population) and 39,789,184 people have a complete vaccination schedule (or 58.9 % of total population).

Despite a slowdown in appointments, the government is maintaining its target of 50 million vaccinated with a first dose at the end of August, which it considers "achievable" thanks to a "rebound effect" expected at the approaching the start of the school year.
