The family of the Syrian girl, Munira, reported that she has moved to a new stage of gradual recovery, five months after she received the gene therapy (Zolgensma), worth eight million dirhams, which "Emirates Today" managed to provide for her after publishing her story via the hotline, And the response of four semi-governmental and private institutions that guarantee the value of treatment for the girl child.

The girl's father, Ahmed Al-Ibrahim, told "Emirates Today" that his daughter has reached an advanced stage of recovery, after receiving the genetic needle (Zolgensma), as she began to move her hands and feet, and other parts of her body, which heralds the completion of the recovery process.

He explained that his daughter, Munira, is currently eight months old, and despite receiving the gene therapy that caused a breakthrough in her health condition, she still needs intensive physiotherapy sessions, equivalent to three sessions per week, which he is currently working on with the competent institutions. .

For his part, the Pediatric Rehabilitation Consultant, Head of the Excellence Center for Neurosciences, supervising the treatment of the girl, Dr. Haitham Al-Bashir, confirmed that the periodic medical examinations that the girl, Munira, undergoes, confirm the remarkable improvement in her health condition, as she began to move parts of her body with her ability to Head control, indicating that her stable condition is generally a good thing, but she is constantly improving, which means the success of her gene therapy, explaining that her health condition will gradually improve better with intensive physical therapy. And «Emirates Today» succeeded, through the “hotline”, in providing the most expensive therapeutic injection in the world (Zolgensma), which is a medicine given to children under two years of age, as a one-time intravenous feeding, at a cost of eight million dirhams.

Four government and private agencies sponsored the treatment of the girl, Munira, as the Emirates Islamic Bank provided four million dirhams, the Dubai Islamic Bank provided two million dirhams, the Dubai International Financial Center provided one million dirhams, and Wasl Real Estate provided one million dirhams.

The little girl (Munira) was born suffering from a hereditary genetic disease represented by spinal muscular atrophy, which caused her to be completely unable to move, in addition to her rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, muscle relaxation, and exposure to cases of suffocation, and after examinations and analyzes her rare disease was diagnosed. .

Doctors confirmed that her treatment is expensive, and is not available in the country, and that after two months she will need a feeding tube so that milk does not enter the lungs, because the effect of atrophy has affected even swallowing and the lung, which did not happen thanks to her obtaining treatment after the four parties guaranteed the price of the injection. .
