[Explanation] August 15, 2021 is the 76th anniversary of Japan’s unconditional surrender. On the same day, Su Yuankui, a survivor of the Chongqing bombing, came to the repaired Chongqing bombing site to mourn the dead relatives and compatriots.

  During World War II, Chongqing, as the Far East command center of the World Anti-Fascist War and the wartime capital of the Nationalist Government, suffered 6 years and 10 months of strategic bombing by the Japanese army, known as the "Chongqing Bombing" in history.

According to statistics, the Chongqing bombing caused 32,829 direct casualties and 6,651 indirect casualties.

  88-year-old Su Yuankui is a survivor of the Chongqing bombing. On this day of August 15 each year, he comes to the site of the Chongqing bombing tragedy to mourn his loved ones and compatriots.

Different from the past, the old man Su Yuankui felt very heavy this time. After he wiped the dust off the monument of the June 5th tunnel tragedy in Chongqing, he put his forehead on the wall of the 6th 5th tunnel tragedy and stayed there for a long time. go.

He said that in his lifetime, I wonder if I can see the Japanese government sincerely apologize.

  The Chongqing bombing was more than 80 years ago when Japan invaded and bombed Chongqing. This history is in our hearts and will not be forgotten, and the (suffering) will be uneven.

  [Explanation] Su Yuankui said that his childhood was full of scenes of rushing into the air-raid shelter with his family to escape the bombing by the Japanese army. He remembered all his life when his relatives and compatriots were killed in the "Sixth Five-Year" tunnel bombing in Chongqing.

  In order to get justice for the victims, in 2004, the Chongqing bombing survivors and relatives of the victims formed the "Chongqing bombing victims private claims group to Japan, and Su Yuankui served as the head of the claim group. He led the survivors and relatives of the victims 40 years later. Yu Ci went to a Japanese court to conduct a transnational litigation and demanded compensation from the Japanese government. In December 2019, the Japanese Supreme Court made a final judgment on the case, and the plaintiffs lost the case. Although the judgment recognized the historical facts of the Chongqing bombing, it rejected the plaintiff’s request for Japan The government apologizes for compensation.

  Su Yuankui and the members of the plaintiffs group were very indignant about the final judgment made by the Japanese court and believed that the judgment was unfair.

In response, they used some non-governmental organizations between China and Japan to expose the heinous crimes committed by the Japanese invaders.

  Our group of plaintiffs went to Japan to claim damages against Japan. For so many years, no results have been achieved. Some of the victims have died because of their old age.

But despite his death, the determination and will to make a claim will not be obliterated.

  [Commentary] Su Yuankui said that suing the Japanese government for compensation is not to perpetuate hatred, but to hope that the world can remember history, oppose war, cherish peace, and prevent history from repeating itself.

He hoped that in his lifetime, he would see the Japanese government sincerely apologize to the victims of the Chongqing bombing.

  I once swore an oath to insist on making claims against Japan for the rest of my life.
