[Live Voice]

  (Recently) Have you watched TV?

(Yes.) What are you looking at?

(Watch the Olympics.) Which country or region do you support?

(China.) China, very good, is there any more?

(Hong Kong.) Some people will ask whether I am a Hong Kong or a Chinese.

(Chinese.) Chinese, very good.

To put it simply, would you say yourself? When I go out and people say I am from Yuen Long, I am a villager, no, you must say big place, so we must say that we are a Chinese identity of.

[Explanation] In a middle school classroom in Yuen Long District, Hong Kong, a course with the theme "I and the National Identity" is underway.

Watching Olympic short videos, looking at pictures to identify celebrities, analyzing historical charts, explaining homework... For freshmen who have just entered the first grade of Lutheran Ximen Elite High School, this first lesson in the middle school makes them feel Quite deep.

In today's class, I learned a lot about respecting the country, and I realized that I am a Chinese, not (only) a Hongkonger, because Hong Kong is part of China.

I have all gone to watch the Tokyo Olympics. When I saw that we Chinese or Hong Kong people were receiving the award on the stage, I was very moved because they had put a lot of hard work for the country to get this medal.

When the flood happened in Henan Province, I have donated money. Although I donated not much money, it is a kind of love. I hope that I can help them.

In today's class, I learned how to respect my country. I think these young college students in Hong Kong shouldn't.

Because they destroyed Hong Kong's facilities and also damaged China's reputation.

Because many people in our country are working hard to develop this country.

The country's science and technology are also very good now, and the economy is also very good now, because the Chinese have achieved all this.

[Explanation] This class is a section of the subject "Life Education" independently opened by the Lutheran Ximen Yingcai Middle School. Since its establishment in 2014, all textbooks have been personally written by the teachers in the school. It is guiding students to correctly understand the relationship between themselves and the country, and cultivate their recognition of national identity.

As the head of the subject, Huang Yunshan has been teaching for 14 years. Her many years of teaching experience tells her that in addition to teachers' professors, guiding students to actively discover and think independently is also an important part of national education.

The Olympics has just ended, so we all start from the Olympics. When they (students) watch it, they ask them, which country do you pay the most attention to?

They will say they are paying attention to China.

why?

Because first, they think that they are a part of the Chinese. In addition, they all see that the Chinese are not weaker than other European countries in sports achievements, or even strong, and they are far ahead on the medal list all the way.

These are all discovered by themselves, so as to help them correct some of their previous misconceptions, and let them know that our country can be very strong. Using this method to let them discover by themselves is better than us (the teacher). .

[Explanation] The "Regulations Amendment Disturbance" in 2019 exposed Hong Kong's deficiencies in national education.

The National Fourteenth Five-Year Plan also pointed out that it is necessary to strengthen the education of the Constitution and the Basic Law and the education of national conditions, and strengthen the national consciousness and patriotism of the compatriots in Hong Kong and Macao.

In the process of implementing national education and national security education by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the Lutheran Ximen Yingcai Middle School can be described as a "pioneer."

Looking around the campus, you can see national style and national studies everywhere, and there are many special classrooms for traditional Chinese culture in the teaching building.

From pen, ink, paper and inkstone to scenery decoration, the principal Jian Jiayan personally purchased and arranged. The complexity of the project shows his good intentions.

The whole people have a fixed time, a fixed place, a fixed content, a fixed teaching material, and a fixed thinking orientation. To let them think, you are a Chinese. This is of great significance.

Our children have experienced so many different turbulences in Hong Kong in the past, and there are many voices everywhere. Now it is clear which side you have to lean on. This will definitely have a positive impact on our children’s physical and mental development. The growth of people, the growth of the entire family, the growth of the entire society, the development of the entire country, and even the country’s position in the world.

[Explanation] With the promulgation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the "National Flag and National Emblem Ordinance" and other laws have been revised one after another, and the school immediately added relevant content to the school-based "Life Education Division". What makes Jian Jiayan more excited is that now With the support of the Hong Kong Lutheran Society, the school-running body of the school, this set of school books is negotiating with publishers on publishing matters.

The published school text will have the opportunity to be freely purchased and used by all schools in Hong Kong, which also means that it may affect more students.

[Concurrent] Jian Jiayan, Principal of Ximen Yingcai Lutheran Middle School

In this set of books, we actually started from getting to know ourselves in the last semester. In the next semester, we will mainly get to know our country. For example, what is the position of Hong Kong in the country (among them), for example, what is Hong Kong after the reunification, and Hong Kong before the reunification. What is it like?

Coupled with the supporting of different activities, our classmates can get to know their motherland and their national identity under the guidance of a dual combination of extracurricular and in-class activities.

[Explanation] Jian Jiayan said with pleasure that she has personally experienced the rapid development of education in Hong Kong, and admitted that it is closely related to the guidance of the Education Bureau. She is pleased to see many school-running organizations moving in the right direction under the guidance of the policy, and lamented the significance.

[Concurrent] Jian Jiayan, Principal of Ximen Yingcai Lutheran Middle School

In fact, the Education Bureau is a baton for our school-running organization or school. It is very clear that wherever his baton points, we will swing.

He pointed out that we should attach importance to national education. We naturally attach importance to national education. This orientation is very important.

Even no matter our annual plan, our future school activities, or even our teacher training, etc., as long as the Education Bureau has the guidance, we will follow suit. You said how significant this is.
