The seven-day incidence continues to rise.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Sunday morning, it was 35.0 - the previous day the value was 32.7, a week ago it was 22.6.

The health authorities in Germany reported 4728 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the numbers from Sunday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:01 a.m.

A week ago, the value for Germany was 3127 infections.

The incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June.

In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken more into account.

According to the new information, three deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

There were four deaths a week ago.

The RKI has counted 3,821,013 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,679,500.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,867.

Pediatricians: Protect children from re-lockdown with vaccinations

The German paediatricians have appealed to the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) to also take into account the psychosocial problems of this age group in the debate about a general corona vaccination recommendation for twelve to 17-year-olds. "The Stiko is based solely on the individual benefit of a vaccination in relation to the danger of an illness," said the President of the German Society for Child and Adolescent Medicine, Thomas Fischbach, to the newspapers of the Funke media group. "Collateral damage in the psychosocial development of children and adolescents is not taken into account."

Fischbach criticized that the psychosocial problems of children and adolescents in the Corona crisis had never been the subject of the Stiko recommendations. “Personally, I think that Stiko could change something about these standards,” he said. It is also about protecting children from further damage in the event of new corona measures or another lockdown in the education sector. "Unfortunately, the Standing Vaccination Commission has not yet focused on this aspect," criticized Fischbach.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the vaccines from Biontech and Moderna from the age of 12.

In Germany, the Stiko does not recommend vaccinations for children and adolescents in general, despite political pressure, but only if there is a higher risk of more severe corona courses.

A vaccination is still possible with medical advice.

According to Fischbach, around one million of the 4.5 million children and adolescents in Germany between the ages of 12 and 17 have been vaccinated so far.

The UK government is offering all 16 and 17 year olds a first vaccination by August 23rd.

"This will enable us to ensure that all students in these age groups will be fully vaccinated and protected when they go back to school in September," said Health Minister Sajid Javid on Sunday.
