  • Interview Jordi Mollà: 'I am a stylish thief'

There are those who think that an artistic discipline contains many others.

Jordi Mollà is that type of person: director, actor, screenwriter, writer and even musician (he can be seen playing drums on his

instagram

).

He is also a painter, and opens on August 14 an exhibition of 17 works inspired by nature, at

La Fábrica de Hielo

in Marbella.

But which of all these facets is the most complex?

"Being Jordi Mollà. It is the most chaotic; but always with one foot on the ground, if I don't fly away and don't come back," explains the actor.

What can be seen in the 17 paintings that open their exhibition at

La Fábrica de Hielo

?Many flowers. Inspired by those of Marbella, it is like a tuning of existing paintings. They are personalized still lifes in a very colorful and floral way. It's my first time doing this, but I think the world needs flowers right now. Who does not like that, does not like anything in life. What inspires you when it comes to painting? It depends on where you go. I am inspired by people, places, things that I see in books, in museums ... especially places. When I paint in Madrid it has nothing to do with what I paint in Mallorca, in Miami, in New York, there I get more pop things. I always think a lot about the public, I am not so self-centered as to impose my thing. It comes to me from the cinema, always thinking about the public. Do you consider yourself a painter, a filmmaker or a mixture of both? Everything. I close my eyes and see images, frames ... I also write and direct movies.I've always been like this, what happens is that my life suddenly transitions more to cinema and others to painting. I have so many fronts and concerns that I don't get bored with any of them, doing the same thing all my life seems like a pain in the ass. Does the personality of Jordi painter, Jordi actor or writer change? Total. They are different people, I act differently, I speak differently, my back is differently ... I am an actor by nature, even in my life I transform myself: I play the role of a painter, writer, drummer, everything. ... Yes, now I am also going to open a publishing house and put out a book on how I went through the pandemic. I am also going to make a documentary. They are projects that make me feel alive. How did you experience the pandemic? I shot out of Madrid, I went to Miami and stayed there because I knew it would not be as violent as here. Personally yes it touched me,at the work level no. This has changed us all, we are still groggy. When you are focused on one artistic discipline, don't you miss the others? I always miss it, but it's a nice feeling, it means that you are missing something. Without it you are left as a dry plant. Painting takes up a lot of time and that is why I avoid making films that I shouldn't do.He spoke in another interview with this medium about the importance of saying 'no'. Are you still saying 'no' to things? I try at this point in my life to be what which I really like, not doing for doing and keeping myself in the limelight. That time is past. I try to make films, in fact I have three international projects, which I prefer not to talk about for now. Let's see if they come out, because outside the platforms everything is very vulnerable. One of your 'no's'Most controversial was saying 'no' to George Lucas, why? They actually called me to meet me, that's very American. I said I didn't know if I was ready for something of this magnitude. At that time I was doing

Blow

And it seemed too much to me. What difference do you find between Spanish cinema and Hollywood? A large American project is like working for a multinational, all super structured. There is always love and humanity, but they are huge projects. It is a puzzle with no margin for error. We are like soldiers, but when it comes to working, the love is the same. Both fill me in their own way, whenever we are making a movie or a series, the cinema family does not change. Which of your films has marked you the most? All of them. What marks me the most is what marks the most to the public, since films are for people. What is it like to act with the big stars? Well, there are some more risque but in the end between actors we understand each other. When you have to do a scene with Tom Cruise, Cameron Díaz or Johnny Depp the important thing is to go to the lines and act,we are all working.

The Pope is a calm, friendly man ... I hope to see him again

Jordi Mollà

You were destined to become a promising movie star. Do you consider yourself a superstar? No. I have achieved everything I have wanted and what I have not achieved is because I did not want it. I have stayed well with what I had. Life goes on, an incredible thing may come out tomorrow, this is not over. You can always climb higher, but the higher the fall, the bigger the fall ... you have to know what is the next peak you want to climb. He also spoke about loneliness, is he still without children, without a girlfriend? Yes. I wanted children when I was young, but it did not go out and it would be for something. Maybe he wanted a more freedom path, not carrying packages. Loneliness goes at times, but I am entertained and surrounded by people. In the end it is a feeling that something is missing. You have known from the Pope to great painters, how have these experiences influenced? Incredible. That seems to me like a gift that the cinema has given me. I've met people of all walks of life, did any really surprise you? Prince. He is from another planet, another frequency, and curiously he is not an actor. At that level Johnny Depp marked me a lot. The Pope is a calm, friendly man ... it's incredible because he didn't look like the Pope, he was a man. Which is screwed, being a dad and a man, but he was just a man. I hope to see you again. Which of your own personalities is the most chaotic? That of being Jordi Mollà. That is the most chaotic; but always with one foot on the ground, if I don't fly away and never come back. My life is organized chaos. I have control but I always let things happen. Now we are floating more than ever, that's why I feel like a surfer. I surf waves, I'm going to see what happens. If I see that it is very big, I am aware that I cannot get there. What keeps you on the ground? My education and my way of being. Otherwise I could not invent things, it would come out silly. I set my limits for myself, so that no one considers that what I do makes no sense. That is my limitation. Two plus two equals four, after that whatever you want. A character, a movie, a painting, a book ... everything needs a purpose. One can fly a lot but with awareness. I don't want you to think that my pot is gone, isn't that very subjective? Maybe where you make sense, someone else doesn't, and vice versa. I try to keep the message clear. And that I started painting abstract, but I try to have a direction: to be able to smile, to be able to understand ... New projects? I have one as a director, the documentary, a role in 'The Alchemist', although it has just been reworked. drop that movie.I have another with Tommy Lee Jones. Exhibitions. I need a

break

, but not very long.

I don't know how to stop.

I handle myself in intensity, with adrenaline, with illusion ...
