The Amiens prosecutor's office has reopened an investigation into the death in 2017 of a woman who was then living with a man indicted on Wednesday for intentional homicide on a spouse after the death of his new partner, he announced on Friday.

On Sunday, the body of a 33-year-old woman was discovered at her home in Longpré-les-Corps-Saints, in the Somme.

The autopsy had revealed multiple marks of blows to the face and abdomen.

Already convicted of domestic violence

The companion of this woman, aged 44, admitted in police custody to have beaten him and invoked “the victim's infidelity” as the motive for their last dispute, according to the deputy prosecutor, Anne-Laure Sandretto.

He had already been convicted of domestic violence on the same victim, mother of four children.

A fall on the stairs that raises questions

A previous companion of the accused, the mother of his three children, died in 2017 at the same home after falling on the stairs.

The investigation opened at the time had been closed.

Asked Wednesday about this investigation, Anne-Laure Sandretto had replied that "no link (was) made for the moment between the two cases", but that the file would be "re-examined".
