[Global Net Reporter Kang Bohao] According to Hong Kong’s "East Net", Hong Kong elementary and middle school students will strengthen their classical Chinese learning in Chinese classes. Starting from the new school year in September this year, a total of 93 classics will be added to the Chinese curriculum from elementary school to middle school to high school. Classical Chinese works do not rule out that the relevant chapters will be included in the scope of the designated assessment works for the HKDSE ("Hong Kong Gaokao"). The Hong Kong Education Bureau hopes that all schools in Hong Kong will be fully implemented in the 2024 school year.

According to reports, the Select Committee on Chinese Language Curriculum for Primary and Secondary Schools under the Hong Kong Education Bureau (hereinafter referred to as the "Select Committee") is composed of 15 people. Divided into 4 learning stages, each stage recommends 20-25 classic classical Chinese works, a total of 93 will be listed as recommended articles.

Among them, the 12 designated assessment works for the diploma test remain unchanged for the time being.

However, He Yanping, Chief Curriculum Development Officer (Chinese) of the Hong Kong Education Bureau, revealed that “From the perspective of the HKEAA, they may think that it needs to be changed (designated assessment works) at some time.” So the suggested chapter may be changed.

According to the report, there are currently 20 recommended chapters listed as the fourth stage of high school, of which 12 are designated assessment works, and another 8 are new suggestions, including "Cao Kui Debate", "Chen Qing Biao", "Man Jing" "Travel Notes" and so on.

He Yanping expects that there will be a three-year transition period from now, and hopes to fully include the chapters in the 2024 school year. Many of the chapters proposed this time overlap with the textbooks compiled by current schools and publishers and will not be teachers. Bring too much burden.

Zhao Xiangqi, chairman of the "Select Committee", also said that the selected works should not only be superb in content and writing skills, but also be suitable for students' lives.

The Hong Kong Education Bureau will launch a self-study platform in October this year so that students can learn by playing games.
