A nine-month-old girl may have died of poisoning in the Ravensburg district.

The public prosecutor's office has started investigations into negligent homicide, as stated in a joint statement with the Ravensburg police on Thursday.

Accordingly, there is a suspicion that the infant came into contact with pesticides in the past week.

An exterminator used such a substance in the family's apartment in Ebersbach-Musbach to kill vermin. It is possible that the child came into contact with it on Monday a week ago. The next day the girl was taken to hospital in a comatose state. It showed symptoms of poisoning. The child died on Thursday a week ago. After an autopsy, a toxicological report was still pending.

The criminal police should now determine how the child could have come into contact with the poisonous substance. It is also open whether someone has violated the duty of care, said a police spokeswoman. "One of the questions that arises is whether the family has been adequately informed about the possible danger that a pesticide can pose," she added on Thursday. The exterminators' rooms were searched by investigators.
