NordVPN, the largest provider of virtual private networks, has just published the results of a study devoted to time spent on the Internet.

This was conducted with 5,000 adults from four different countries, between June 22 and 30.

It reveals that the French spend twenty-seven years, 7 months and 6 days of their life on the Web, reports

Le Figaro

, Tuesday.

This represents almost a third of the lifespan, since a person lives on average 82.7 years, in France.

The population thus spends more time behind a computer than sleeping (between 25 and 27 years).

On average, the French spend 56 hours, or more than two days a week on the Internet.

This represents 122 days per year.

A recent study by NordVPN revealed that Brits spend more than 22 years of their lives online.

Online security neglected by many Internet users

And the uses are multiple: 20 hours are devoted to work and the remaining 36 hours to leisure. According to the study by NordVPN, the connection to the Internet is launched from 9:26 a.m. and ends around 9:23 p.m. In addition, social networks are used more and more: 6 hours and 39 minutes per week on average. This increased use of Facebook, Instagram or even Twitter would be linked in particular to the void left by the suppression of all social life during the Covid-19 epidemic.

In France, watching series or films on streaming platforms is also successful with an almost similar duration (6 hours and 18 minutes). Our European neighbors have a slightly different use of the Internet. Germans spend much less time (less than 5 hours) on social networks and Spaniards and Brits, on the contrary, are more keen on movies and series to watch online.

The study also shows that security is often overlooked by Internet users.

"Few are concerned about their online security and the privacy of data provided to apps and websites," said Daniel Markuson, digital privacy expert at NordVPN.

The date of birth, first and last names or even the full address are the most widely disclosed information.

When it comes to web addiction, one in three Germans, 34.5%, cannot imagine spending a day on the Internet.
