It has been two weeks before the opening of the Tokyo Paralympics.

Pre-camps for overseas athletes to participate are scheduled to be held in 63 local governments nationwide, and as the infection of the new coronavirus spreads rapidly, infection control is an issue.

When NHK interviewed prefectures nationwide about the Tokyo Paralympic Games pre-camp last week, there were at least 111 local governments that initially planned to accept overseas athletes, but 48 of them were concerned about the risk of infection due to movement. All were canceled for some reason.

Pre-camps are held in 63 local governments in 30 prefectures, and the number of local governments by prefecture is 6 in Tokyo and Kanagawa, 4 in Chiba and Fukuoka, and so on.

Of these, the practice of the table tennis team was released on the 10th in Mitaka City, Tokyo, which has been accepting 10 people including Chilean table tennis and archery players and related parties since August 6.

In Mitaka City, we have established a reception system by communicating with the Paralympic Committee of Chile many times regarding infection control and barrier-free facilities.

During the training camp, athletes and related parties are inspected daily in accordance with the national infection control guidelines.

Hiroshi Hirayama, chief of the Mitaka City Sports Promotion Division, said, "We have been paying attention to the most important infection control measures so far. We want athletes to make adjustments with confidence and attend the tournament."

According to the Cabinet Secretariat, about 16,000 athletes and related parties from overseas are scheduled to participate in the Tokyo Paralympics, which will start on August 24, and the peak of their visit to Japan is expected to be in the first half of next week.
