• San Sebastian Festival Johnny Depp will receive a controversial Donostia Award in the middle of a judicial scuffle with Amber Heard

Few times before Johnny Depp (Owensboro, Kentucky, 1963) has been going to receive so many awards.

First in Karlovy Vary, at the end of August, and, a month later, in San Sebastián.

In both cases, his career or contribution to the cinema is rewarded, in general terms. In the note issued by the San Sebastián Festival to justify the Donostia Award that he will receive on September 22, only

"his career"

is mentioned

.

And yet, never before has her figure been so disputed.

"With these awards, the message that is being launched is very harmful: it is not important that you are an abuser if you are a good actor.

And even more so in a moment as critical as the one we are experiencing," declares

Cristina Andreu

, President of the Association of Women Filmmakers and Audiovisual Media (CIMA).

Andreu does not hesitate to qualify as

"inappropriate"

an acknowledgment precisely now that there is a court ruling against the actor.

It is not a simple public accusation of his ex-wife Amber Heard, but the case was duly endorsed by a judge who basically ruled that the accusations made by the British newspaper

'The Sun'

were "

substantially correct".

Later, in March, another court vetoed Depp from appealing the ruling, claiming that his attempt to overturn the decision "had no real prospect of success."

"I am not a judicial expert nor do I want to be," Andreu points out, "but we do not understand that a Festival that has counted on us for countless matters has decided to take a step of these characteristics.

We believe that this is not the time.

Perhaps the most sensible thing to do. it would have been waiting to see how the judicial conflict evolves. At the moment, there is a sentence against him ... and he is being rewarded ".

Remember that the sentence determined and validated the accusations that Depp attacked Heard a dozen times and made her

"fear for her life

.

"

The actress described one of those critical moments (in March 2015) as a "three-day kidnapping situation" in Australia.

Now Depp has started the court battle in the United States.

A Virginia State court will hear the actor's complaint against Heard for describing (without mentioning Depp's name) abuse and death threats in an article in

'The Washington Post' a

few months after reaching a divorce agreement .
