The Xunta de Galicia has announced that it has been forced to reschedule next week's vaccination campaign following the notification from the central government that it will receive half the expected doses of Moderna and no doses of the new batch of 3.4 million from Pfizer .

Julio García Comesaña, Galician Health Minister, has claimed not to understand why Galicia is being penalized, according to the Xunta in a statement, in which it is recalled that it is

one of the autonomous communities that is vaccinating the fastest.

According to the information that the Ministry of Health has sent to Galicia, the expected doses of Moderna are reduced by half and will be compensated with 8,700 doses of Pfizer, which forces, according to the regional government, to

reschedule the operation to guarantee the second dose of Moderna

to citizens who have received the first.

"To this must be added the confirmation that

Galicia will not receive any of the vials announced by the President of the Government last week

," indicates the Xunta in its statement, referring to the extraordinary shipment of 3.4 million doses from Pfizer to Spain during the month of August.

The announcement comes after the Galician Minister of Health sent a letter to the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, requesting information on the distribution of vaccines.

"It would also be a good time to incorporate that information into a complete report, which we have not had since the beginning of the process,

on the criteria that have been applied in the successive distributions,

" stated the counselor in his letter.

"In the distribution of these new doses, the target population criterion that we were told was set from the beginning must continue to be considered, also

taking into account other factors, such as the number of positive cases that each autonomous community has had

and that, therefore, they require one less dose to receive the complete regimen ", demands the Minister of Health.

For its part, the Ministry of Health expects to receive 1,150,000 doses of Pfizer starting this Sunday, which will be the first shipment of the total 3.4 million extraordinary that will arrive in August and that will increase the number of doses from 16 million to 19. doses administered this month in the whole of Spain.
