South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Thursday a major government reshuffle, with ten new ministers including Defense, Finance and Health, whose holder is accused of corruption. Zweli Mkhize, 65, a doctor by training widely hailed for his responsiveness to Covid-19, was placed on "special leave" in early June following the opening of an investigation for corruption targeting two of his relatives in the ministry, in as part of a public contract to fight the pandemic. 

Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara announced on Friday the "provisional release of 69 defendants" and granted "pardon" to nine other detainees, arrested during the October 2020 presidential election marked by deadly violence. "I note the placing under judicial supervision or provisional release (...) of 69 defendants detained following the events which occurred during the presidential election of October 2020", declared the Head of State in a televised speech on the eve of Independence Day in his country, a former French colony.
