The seven-day incidence has roughly quadrupled in a month.

According to information from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Friday morning, it was 20.4 - the previous day the value was 19.4, and the most recent low on July 6th was 4.9.

The health authorities in Germany reported 3448 new corona infections to the RKI within one day.

This is evident from the figures that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 4:11 a.m.

According to the RKI, the seven-day incidence in Germany is increasing again several weeks earlier and faster than in summer 2020. “Despite the increasing vaccination rate,” the RKI wrote on Thursday evening on Twitter.

20- to 24-year-olds are often infected

The incidence has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions in the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June.

In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken into account to a greater extent.

According to the new information, 24 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 30 deaths.

The RKI has counted 3,784,433 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at 3,662,700.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 91,754.

As can be seen from the new RKI weekly report, health authorities can currently no longer understand all chains of infection.

Regarding the age of the infected, the RKI wrote: "The current increase in incidence can be observed above all in the age groups of 10 to 34-year-olds, although this trend is now also becoming apparent in the age groups up to 49".

The information relates to the period up to August 1st.

The RKI recorded most infections with 49 per 100,000 inhabitants within a week for 20 to 24 year olds.

Single-digit values are given for people aged 55 and over, but there are also slight increases in some of these groups.

Diffuse image of returning travelers

According to the report, the figures for hospital patients and treatments in intensive care units are still at “a“ low level ”.

Those infected so far, mostly young, have a lower risk of severe disease than the very old.

In the past four reporting weeks, according to the RKI, there was no difference between the alpha and delta variants with regard to the proportion of patients who came to the hospital.

The data that the RKI has on return travelers does not show a complete picture: In 42 percent of the cases reported in the past few weeks, there was no information on the likely country of infection, it said.

According to the report, the proportion of cases in which a probable infection abroad is known did not increase any further compared to the previous week.

There are a total of 5,000 infections between July 5 and August 1, in which people were probably exposed to the virus abroad.

- In Germany, around four times the number was recorded in the same time.

As the travel destination with the most suspected infections, Spain is named by a long way ahead of Turkey and Croatia.

The delta variant classified as worrying has largely displaced other variants in Germany.

In a sample selected for genetic analysis, which is representative of Germany, Delta was found in 97 percent of the cases, as the RKI writes.

Almost all other evidence relates to the previously dominant mutant alpha (B.1.1.7).

According to the data, the so-called lambda variant continues to play no role in Germany.

Throughout the summer, the number of laboratory tests (PCR) carried out per week has been significantly lower than in the spring.

However, the RKI has seen an increasing proportion of positive tests again for four weeks.

At three percent, however, it is still comparatively low.

According to the RKI, the majority of the corona cases recorded since February were not vaccinated.

It is "urgently recommended to take advantage of the offers for vaccination against Covid-19 now," the report appeals.

The RKI gives the estimated vaccination effectiveness at around 88 percent for people between the ages of 18 and 59 and around 87 percent for the group over 60.
