Former national soccer team captain Michael Ballack mourns the loss of his 18-year-old son Emilio.

He died after a quad bike accident in Portugal.

At first, several Portuguese media reported about it.

“This news is a big shock for the entire FC Bayern family and for me personally.

I have known and valued Michael for more than 20 years, I am incredibly sorry for him and his family.

I now wish you all the strength in the world, ”said Herbert Hainer from Ballack's former club Bayern Munich.

The chairman of the board, Oliver Kahn, was also “deeply shaken”.

Ballack's former club Bayer Leverkusen also took part.

"We mourn the boy and feel for Michael and Simone," said Sports Director Rudi Völler: "We all here at Bayer 04 wish the whole Ballack family an incredible amount of strength."

Champions League winners FC Chelsea also expressed their condolences on their homepage.

“Everyone connected with Chelsea Football Club is shocked and saddened to learn of Emilio Ballack's death at the terribly young age of 18.

All our thoughts are with his father Michael and his family at this sad time, ”said Ballack's only club abroad.

Emilio was one of three sons from the marriage of Michael and his former wife Simone.
