Forty French firefighters from the south and south-east defense zones took off this Thursday from Marseille-Provence airport to help their Greek counterparts.

Greece has been facing numerous and virulent fires for several days, nearly a hundred in the past 24 hours.

Of these, two are particularly worrying and out of control.

One near the village of Ancient Olympia, where the first Games were held, and where around 20 houses burned down.

The second, located east of Athens, has already devastated 25,000 hectares of pine forests and hundreds of houses.

More than 150 Greek firefighters, assisted by air means, have been battling for several days on each of these fires while the country is affected by an exceptional heatwave.
