The number of hospitalizations continues to increase in France with 1,420 patients in critical care Thursday, a week after the threshold of 1,000 patients was crossed in these services which treat the most serious cases, according to figures published by Public Health France.

With 150 new admissions in 24 hours, critical care welcomed 1,420 patients affected by Covid-19 on Thursday against 1,371 on Wednesday and 1,015 a week ago, according to figures published by Public Health France.

This indicator had fallen below the threshold of 1,000 on July 7, before starting to rise.

The number of hospitalizations is also on the rise: 8,210 patients on Thursday (including 712 new admissions in 24 hours) against 8,134 the day before and 7,236 a week ago.

Increase in the number of daily deaths

"After the time of the epidemic wave came that of the hospital wave. Here in Aix-en-Provence with increasingly young patients admitted to intensive care, 90% of them unvaccinated", declared the minister of Health, Olivier Véran, during a visit to a hospital center.

The number of daily deaths linked to Covid-19 in hospitals is also on the rise with 52 deaths in one day.

On the vaccination side, 44,051,833 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 65.3% of the total population) since the start of the campaign in France and 36,594,069 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 54.3% of the total population).

A third dose of vaccine against Covid-19 will be offered "at the start of the school year" for "the oldest and most fragile", Emmanuel Macron said Thursday, like several other countries. The exact scope of the people who will be offered this vaccine booster should be the subject of arbitration "next week", according to the Ministry of Health.
