The situation is growing again in certain regions of France and hospitals are organizing to deal with the fourth wave of Covid-19.

Head of the intensive care unit at La Timone in Marseille, Nicolas Bruder spoke on Europe 1 of a particularly high incidence rate in the south of France, especially among young people.

INTERVIEW

"It is all the vacation areas that are impacted," points out Nicolas Bruder.

Invited from Europe 1, the head of the intensive care unit at La Timone hospital in Marseille spoke of extremely high incidence rates in the south of France, which he attributes to departures on vacation, "the release of confinement, festive meetings ".

Specifically referring to young populations, according to him more reluctant to be vaccinated, Nicolas Bruder is worried about seeing patients in their thirties enter regularly in intensive care.

Young people regularly admitted to intensive care

"When we look at the incidence in populations of 20-30 years, we have never seen that: we are around 1,600 per 100,000", explains the doctor. "Clearly, these are all the places where there is a party, where we do not wear a mask, which have led to this increase in incidence," he said.

Moreover, Nicolas Bruder recalls that the serious forms do not spare the youngest.

"We admit patients who are 30, 32, 35 years old every day," laments the doctor, who mentions regular admissions to intensive care, and therefore, by definition, serious forms of Covid-19.

"It's becoming, worryingly, a lot more frequent."

Indeed, he adds, the incidence rate in the young population is very high.

"This is something that worries us, and which should give pause to the young population who are often more reluctant to be vaccinated."
