This is an unexpected return to the music scene.

Ex-Daft Punk Thomas Bangalter will compose the music for a ballet by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj, which will be performed in a year at the Opéra national de Bordeaux, the cultural establishment has announced.

The performances of this work entitled "Mythologies" will take place from July 1 to 10, 2022. The project was born "about a year and a half ago", well before the self-dissolution in February 2021 of the famous electro duo, confided Olivier Lombardie, general administrator of the ONB.

"Rubbing shoulders with the symphonic orchestration"

“Angelin, who had already worked with Daft Punk on electro music, then proposed to Thomas Bangalter to compose this time for him a ballet music.

This one wanted to change register, he really wanted to try to move on, to rub shoulders with the symphonic orchestration ”and this is how the collaboration began, relates Olivier Lombardie.

“He got down to it right away, he started to offer compositions, little by little it grew (…) We are delighted, very excited, it corresponds exactly to what we wanted: to break down the borders, breaking the codes, showing that a symphony orchestra can play current music by a contemporary composer, ”he enthuses, hoping to bring“ a new audience ”to the opera.

Round trips between Paris and Bordeaux

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo's ex-partner regularly travels back and forth between Paris and Bordeaux to work in particular with the young assistant conductor Romain Dumas, who will be at the helm for the performances.

About twenty dancers from Angelin Preljocaj's company and from the Bordeaux Opera ballet are engaged for this choreography organized in "several pieces on the major themes of Greek and ancient mythology".
