Japanese beetle near the border raises concern in Germany

German pest control departments are concerned after a Japanese beetle was discovered near the country's border in the Swiss city of Basel.

The Augustenburg Center for Agricultural Technology explained that these beetles can cause severe damage due to the lack of organisms that feed on them in Germany.

So ordinary people should be alert and report the presence of such a beetle if it is found, and stop it from moving away.

The Julius Kohn Institute, the federal research center for plants, classifies the insect as a "beetle with a great appetite."

The Japanese beetle feeds on more than 300 species of woody plants, and the Augustenburg Center mentioned that these include apple trees, stonecrops, strawberries, soybeans, corn, grapes, roses and many more.
