In Corsica, the number of Covid-19 cases is increasing and the pressure on hospital services is increasing.

At Bastia hospital, the situation is particularly tense: an average of nine positive people are hospitalized each day and less than five Covid beds remain.

The caregivers are exhausted and some are thinking about quitting. 

The Isle of Beauty is facing a worrying increase in coronavirus cases.

According to the latest newsletter from the Corsican Regional Health Agency, 21 new hospitalizations are to be deplored over the last three days.

Sixty-nine patients are hospitalized, including 14 people in intensive care and intensive care.

"Caregivers are more and more exhausted" 

"It is more and more tense, caregivers are more and more exhausted. We call on overtime on a period of leave, eagerly awaited by all staff," says Sophie, nurse at the surgery center.

"We live from day to day, depending on what happens to us."

Not to mention that with the influx of tourists, in the middle of the summer, the workload also intensifies in emergencies.

The situation is becoming untenable according to Sophie and some caregivers are even tempted to return the gown.

"Me the first and yet I have been a caregiver for 26 years. It's horrible," she laments.

Lack of beds, a recurring problem 

This new wave brings back memories of the first wave.

The lessons were not retained according to Séverine Mazon, CGT co-secretary at the Bastia Hospital.

"By setting up beds for Covid patients, we are forced to reduce the capacities of other specialties. We are very tight in terms of beds, but this problem was already known before the Covid and continues with the health crisis," explains- she does.

Aware of the emergency, the ARS of Corsica and the prefecture must announce new health measures on Tuesday. Already, Corse-du-Sud has announced the return of the compulsory mask in certain areas as well as the limitation of gatherings on public roads. In Haute-Corse, restaurants and bars must close at midnight, since August 1.
