Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek (CDU) wants to adjust the state support for schoolchildren, students and trainees.

"We need a further development of the student loan in the new electoral period," said the CDU politician of the Augsburger Allgemeine.

The training support must be adapted to changed framework conditions.

Among other things, the Minister of Education wants to move the Bafög age limit for students back. “We also want to do more for people who want to study later in life, even if they are older than 35, for example,” Karliczek told the newspaper. The funding should no longer automatically expire with the standard period of study. The CDU politician also spoke out in favor of the state having to support a second education financially. The student loan must do justice to new educational biographies, "which are no longer as uniform as they used to be".

During the corona pandemic, the federal government stood by students not only with student loans, but also with bridging aid. Affected people could receive up to 500 euros a month as a subsidy if it can be proven that they lost their part-time job and got into financial difficulties. According to Karliczek, the federal government helped over 100,000 students with 172 million euros.
