Guadeloupe is "in an extremely complicated phase".

Faced with a tripling of the number of Covid infections over one week and low vaccination coverage (27% of first-time recipients), the prefect Alexandre Rochatte announced on Monday the establishment of a new three-week confinement from Wednesday 8 p.m.

The goal: "Break the curve" of a fourth wave of the coronavirus before the start of September.

An announcement that comes less than a week after a similar decision in Martinique.

As part of this confinement, the curfew is brought forward by one hour, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

During the day, travel is limited to a sphere of 10 km, except for "overriding reasons".

The bars will be closed for three weeks, including on the terrace.

And the prefect is working with local communities to keep restaurants open at lunchtime.

But Alexandre Rochatte warned: “This is a first phase, I hope we won't have to go further.

If the contaminations and hospitalizations curves continued to climb, confinement would tighten, with a curfew from 6 p.m. and the closure of restaurants and non-essential businesses.
