The pressure of the Covid-19 epidemic on French hospital services continues to increase slowly, with 170 new admissions in the past 24 hours.

More than 1,200 patients are currently in intensive care for an infection linked to Covid-19.

The pressure on the hospital system continued to increase on Monday, with a further rise in the number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals and in critical care services, according to figures from Public Health France.

As France faces an outbreak of the Delta variant, the number of Covid patients in hospital is now 7,840, 259 more than Sunday and 761 more than last Monday.

More than 1,200 patients in intensive care

New 24-hour admissions are also up with 688, the highest figure since late May.

The critical care services, which receive the most serious cases, have for their part 1,232 patients with Covid-19 (including 170 new admissions in 24 hours), against 1,137 on Sunday and 952 a week ago.

This indicator had passed below the 1,000 threshold on July 7, before starting to climb slowly and return above 1,000 four days ago.

The disease killed 51 new hospital deaths in 24 hours.
