A "Tik Tok" star was killed in a shooting in a cinema hall

Anthony Barajas, a famous Tik Tok celebrity, has died of his injuries after a shooting in a California movie theater that left another victim, according to local police.

Anthony Barajas, 19, and Riley Goodrich, one of his friends, were attending the screening of "The Forever Burg" last week in a cinema in Corona, about 75 kilometers from Los Angeles, when a man opened fire.

The film is set in a dystopian future where all crimes, including murder, are permitted one day a year.

At the end of the show, workers in the cinema found the two friends, who were among the few spectators who were attending the movie show that night.

Riley Goodrich died on the spot, while Anthony Barajas was taken to hospital with a serious injury.

Corona police said that he died of his injuries the day before yesterday.

Anthony Barajas, better known online as "Its Anthony Michael," had nearly a million followers on Tik Tok, where he posted short videos documenting his daily life.

Police arrested the 20-year-old suspect, Joseph Jimenez, but said they favored the hypothesis of an "unprovoked attack".

Security forces said that "a firearm and other evidence linking it to the crime scene" were found at the suspect's home.

And things were stolen during the attack, without that being the main motive for the crime, according to the police, who indicated that Joseph Jimenez acted alone and had no connection with his victims in advance.

The United States is witnessing a rise in armed violence, which President Joe Biden has described as a "scourge."

The country recorded more than 19,000 gun murders in 2020, a year that saw an increase in murders in every American city.

In 2012, a heavily armed man killed 12 people inside a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, during the screening of the movie "The Dark Knight Rises."
