Universal just announced a budget of $ 400 million for a new

The Exorcist

trilogy

.

Scheduled for airing on Peacock, the studios' streaming platform, the films will see the return of Ellen Burstyn, the star of the original 1973 film, Variety reveals.

The production was entrusted to David Gordon Green, best known for his work on the latest

Halloween

reboot

.

This new demonic saga will be produced by Blumhouse, a production company that made itself known and enriched itself with

Get Out

and

The Purge

, two films with a budget as small as their success was immense.

Platforms spend lavishly

This Universal announcement comes as no surprise at a time when the major streaming platforms are all signing colossal contracts to secure the exclusivity of juicy franchises.

We think in particular of Netflix which secured the rights to the sequels of

A Couteaux Tirés

for 450 million dollars, or even Amazon which paid 125 million for

Coming 2 America

and 200 million for

The Tomorrow War

with Chris Pratt.

The first film in this trilogy

The Exorcist

should have a theatrical start with a release already set for October 13, 2023 for the United States.

Needless to say, it's a Friday!
