Travelers on flights from

Brazil and South Africa

to any airport located in Spain must keep

a mandatory quarantine

from next Tuesday, August 3,

during the 10 days following their arrival in the country, or during their entire stay in Spain if this was less than that period.

This is reflected in a new order of the Ministry of Health published this Saturday in the Official State Gazette, which includes the incorporation of these two countries to

the list of those considered high risk

along with Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Namibia, whose passengers are quarantined since last Tuesday.

With the incorporation of Brazil and South Africa to the quarantine requirement, the Government will end the limitations applied to flights from these countries since last February, to prevent the spread of the coronavirus strains that emerged in their territories.

Since then, only flights to Spain that were occupied by Spanish or Andorran citizens, as well as residents in both countries or passengers in international transit to a non-Schengen country with a stopover of less than 24 hours could be made without leaving the transit area of the Spanish airport.

This quarantine period, which has been

ratified by the National Court,

may end earlier if on the seventh day the person undergoes a diagnostic test for active infection with a negative result.

During the quarantine period, people must

stay at their home or accommodation and must "limit" their movements,

as well as the access of third parties to the home or accommodation, to those essential for the acquisition of food, pharmaceutical products and basic necessities, assistance to health centers, services and establishments or for "causes of force majeure or situation of need".

In addition, both in their travels and in their contact with cohabitants and with those who provide them with those "essential" goods or services to guarantee their food, cleanliness and, where appropriate, sanitary care, the order urges them to "observe all hygiene and prevention of transmission of the disease caused by Covid-19 ".

Quarantine tracking

The health authorities can contact the people who are in quarantine to follow them up and the members of the Security Forces and Corps can carry out "at any time"

the "opportune checks"

to guarantee compliance with the same.

The order also establishes that, in the event of any suspicion of

symptoms of Covid-19,

people in quarantine must contact the health services by phone using the numbers authorized by the autonomous communities, indicating that they are in quarantine.

On the other hand, travel agencies, tour operators and transport companies must inform travelers of these measures at the beginning of the process of selling tickets to Spanish territory.

This order does not apply to the aeronautical personnel

necessary to carry out air transport activities.
