5 years in prison for cat killer in Britain

A British court has imposed a prison sentence of five years and three months on a man who killed nine cats in the span of a few months in Brighton, sowing fear in the hearts of the owners of the cats in this coastal city in southern England.

Steve Bucky, a 54-year-old security officer, was charged with murdering nine cats and injuring seven others between October 2018 and July 2019, as well as illegal possession of a bladed weapon.

Bucky has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During the trial at Hove Crown Court near Brighton, the owners of the murdered pets recounted their anguish when their bloody cats were found at the entrance to the house.

Bucky denied any connection to the killings he had heard about in the news, he said.

But a picture of a dead cat was found in his cell phone.

Within months, mystery remained surrounding these killings, which were carried out especially at night, before the perpetrators were identified thanks to a surveillance camera used by one of the victims' owners.

Steve Bucky's motives remain a mystery.

In 2015, reports of cat mutilation in Croydon, south London, sparked panic in the British capital.

And Scotland Yard opened an investigation into this matter, and after 3 years and 400 cases, the finger was pointed at foxes that one might encounter even in central London.
