Louie the owl is no ordinary owl, but rather an animal whose job it is to provide emotional support to people with mental health issues.

And this cute owl was accompanying his owner on his recent mountaineering trips, on a campaign to help those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder and the stigma that haunts them.

According to Canada's Good News, the two recently set off on a long-distance climb to the highest peak in South Wales, Ban-e-Van, on a mission to raise awareness of mental health.

Speaking to British photographer Joan Randless, who accompanied them on the adventure, Gallo said: "People don't realize how special Louie is, not just to me but to the people I let them carry. It's such a special moment of love."

The man has also set up a Facebook page to mobilize people by learning from his battles with post-traumatic stress disorder, and with the goal of empowering readers in turn to inspire others.

The father of three wrote: "I built this page out of a desperate battle with my mental health and suicidal thoughts in hopes of making a difference and leaving a legacy of creativity and inspiration."

Recently, Gallo, Louie and another owl named Oscar have become familiar faces across Cardiff, working together to encourage others to join them in group challenges and get-togethers so they too can take positive steps to overcome their fears.

PTSD, stress disorder and mental health are really bad, Jaillo said, but the journey I am making may light the way for those in need. In the process, he calls on those in trouble to be brave and honest, telling him, “Be strong, Be honest, be you!"
