The health situation is deteriorating.

The number of Covid-19 patients in critical care services continues to climb in France, according to figures released this Friday by Public Health France.

After having exceeded the symbolic threshold of 1,000 patients the day before, critical care services counted 1,072 patients on Friday against 1,015 Thursday and 872 a week ago.

165 new patients were admitted in 24 hours to these services which treat the most serious cases.

This indicator had fallen below the threshold of 1,000 on July 7, before starting to climb slowly.

An "alarming" situation according to Public Health France

The number of hospitalizations also increased slightly, with 7,363 patients on Friday (including 640 admitted in the last 24 hours), against 7,236 Thursday and 6,802 the previous Friday.

Public Health France described Friday as "alarming" the "very strong trend of increase" in hospital admissions, while stressing that we remained for the moment "on levels much lower" than previous waves.

The number of hospitalizations fell from around 1,700 to 2,700 in one week.

During the third wave, in April, this level had risen to "more than 10,000", and during the second wave, in the fall of 2020, "nearly 20,000", underlined Friday during a press point Delphine Viriot, epidemiologist at the public agency.
