Weihe's eighth flood storage and detention area was opened for emergency at zero hour

  In order to ensure the safety of flood control in the county seat of Junxian County and the Weihe River, and to ensure the safety of the lives and property of the people in Hebi and Anyang, the Xiaotanpo flood storage and detention area was urgently opened at 0:00 on July 30, with the approval of the Henan Provincial Government.

  The Xiaotanpo flood storage and detention area is located on the right bank of the middle reaches of the Weihe River in Jun County of Hebi City and Neihuang County of Anyang City. It was built in 1955 to make up for the insufficient flood storage capacity of the Changhong Canal and Baisipo flood storage and detention areas.

The flood storage and detention area is the alluvial plain of the Yellow River, with a north-south direction, and the general topography trend is south-high and north-low.

  According to Feng Linsong, director of the Flood and Drought Disaster Prevention Division of the Henan Provincial Water Resources Department, the Xiaotan Slope flood storage and detention area is designed to detain 57.30 meters of flood water, with a water depth of 0.5 to 4.0 meters, a corresponding flood detention volume of 74 million cubic meters and a submerged area of ​​95.4 square kilometers.

  According to the "Preliminary Plan for the Application of Flood Storage and Detention Area in Henan Province" issued in September 2020, the Xiaotanpo flood storage and detention area involves 2 counties, 4 townships (offices), and a population of 89,400.

The area includes 2 counties, Jun County and Neihuang County, 4 townships (offices), 42 villages, and a population of 63047 people.

Among them, Jun County includes 32 villages in Wangzhuang Township, Shantang Township and Liyang Office, with a population of 51,035 people; Neihuang County includes 10 villages in Er'an Township with a population of 11,2012.

  At this point, in addition to Ren Gupo, eight of the nine major flood storage and detention areas in the Weihe River System have been opened.

As of 16:30 on July 27, the 7 flood storage and detention areas of Weihe River system Guangrunpo, Cuijiaqiao, Liangxiangpo, Gongquxi, Changhong Canal, Liuweipo, and Baisipo have stored and detained 463 million cubic meters of floodwater.
