Soon a new method to identify the authors of urban rodeos?

In Lyon, this Thursday, the parliamentary rapporteurs of a mission to assess the effectiveness of the legislative arsenal in the face of urban rodeos raised the possibility of using drones to identify criminal drivers.

“The law will have to provide new tools (…) in particular the authorization of drones.

We are now looking for a legislative drafting that will allow this means of video surveillance to be used, ”said Robin Reda, co-rapporteur of the assessment mission of the law of August 3, 2018 aimed at fighting motorized rodeos.

📰 The 2018 law proved to be a deterrent, but its application faces practical difficulties.

Evaluating its effects and proposing improvements, this is the challenge of our parliamentary mission to strengthen the fight against # RodeosMotorisés.https: //t.co/ipSEGgMxtZ

"Improve the safety of our fellow citizens"

The text made the phenomenon an offense punishable by one year in prison and a fine of 15,000 euros.

"Today, all the elected representatives of the right as of the left are converted to video protection", continued Mr. Reda, LR deputy of Essonne, calling for the use of drones "a tool (...) to better fight against motorized rodeos and improve the safety of our fellow citizens ”.

For Natalia Pouzyreff, LREM member of Yvelines and co-rapporteur of the mission, the metropolis of Lyon and its territory are "seriously affected" by the phenomenon of urban rodeos.

The two parliamentarians spoke with law enforcement officials and a representative of the prosecution, calling on them for more "cooperation".

The objective is to lead to the confiscation of the vehicles involved, without calling into question the criminal response.

11 adults tried in immediate appearance

In the first quarter, 32 investigations were opened, 18 perpetrators were identified and 11 adults were tried in immediate appearance, some sentenced to prison, according to a report from the Lyon prosecutor's office. The rapporteurs also called for a debate in the National Assembly on the sanction of the “promotion” of these rodeos on social networks. They hope to amend for more firmness the law of 2018 by the autumn on the occasion of the examination of the bill relating to penal security and internal security, brought together by the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Justice.

Last month, Hélène Geoffroy, PS mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin, in the Lyon suburbs, launched a system of supervised motocross sessions on the circuit for sixty young people from her city in order to fight against rodeos and their nuisances that affect the outskirts like the center of Lyon.

"All avenues are to be implemented, especially in the field of prevention", greeted Ms. Pouzyreff, for whom the program must "target young people before they fall into delinquency."
