“Humanity” is the title that was set for the 10th session of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award. What is remarkable about the winning works in the first places is that they embodied the suffering imposed by the “Corona” pandemic in terms of humanity, so it depicted the most moments that overshadowed human pain, whether in terms of doctors’ dealing with the pandemic, or what it imposed of new forms of our lives.

Brazilian artist Ari Bassos, who won the grand prize of $120,000, presented an image that expresses the human pain that accompanied the workers on the first lines of defense to confront "Corona", and they are doctors, as they were more in contact with the virus and dealing with infected cases. The Brazilian presented a picture of Dr. Juliana Peru, after eight hours of her continuous work in the emergency room to treat people infected with the Corona virus. This picture highlights the doctor and the features of extreme fatigue visible on her face, and these features summarize the suffering of patients and their stories in the struggle against this virus. The doctor also summarizes the suffering of doctors in the face of the virus that has spread all over the world, leaving its effects on aspects of social, medical and economic life.

In other axes of the award, a group of pictures that highlight the forms of relationships and life after the “Corona” pandemic, and among them was the image of the Danish artist Madis Nissen, through which he won first place in the main axis, where he presented through the picture a case of hugging between an elderly woman and a young man. Small through the presence of the plastic barrier between them, a behavior that embodies the commitment to the distancing measures imposed by the “Corona” pandemic, and highlights the change in human relations, and how they became after social distancing. The picture not only highlights life in the shadow of "Corona", but also highlights the psychological state of humans and what they are going through, as it goes beyond documenting the form of life to penetrate into the depths of people's feelings.

As for the Italian photographer, who won the first prize in the black and white axis, Giuseppe Coccieri, he relied on the void to document the form of human life in light of the distance after the "Corona" pandemic. In his artwork, the photographer presented a picture of the sea, above it a large cloud, with chairs separated by large distances to ensure the state of social distancing. The picture conveys a form of life that we live in, but in a dazzling artistic style, where the elements of the picture occupy close spaces, so we find the cloud occupies half of the picture, just as the space for empty chairs, which makes it worthy of addressing people with what affects their concerns and fears.

In the general color theme, the French photographer Samir El Doumi won the first prize, which embodies a scene of a group of people in a boat in the middle of the sea.

The waves rise above people in winter coats, embodying a kind and facet of suffering in the lives of those who resist the cold and climatic factors.
