An unknown person opened fire during the screening of the film "Judgment Night Forever" at the Regal Edwards Corona Crossings cinema in the city of Corona (California, USA).

According to police reports, one person was killed and another was injured.

According to Variety, the incident took place on Monday evening during a session that began at 21:35 local time.

The show lasted one hour and 44 minutes, at 23:45 the police were called to the scene without specifying any specific reasons.

Law enforcement officials said 18-year-old Riley Goodrich died at the scene as a result of the movie shooting.

19-year-old Anthony Barajas was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, the victim's life is in danger at the moment.

Young people came to the session together.

Law enforcement spokesman Corporal Tobias Kurubakalis believes that the injured were discovered by a movie theater employee who entered the hall after the screening ended.

Firearms were not found at the scene - however, the police were able to find some evidence.

At the moment, the police cannot unequivocally say that a third person shot both victims - a version of an attempted murder and suicide by Goodrich or Barajas is also being considered.

There is no witness statement or CCTV footage to indicate that the perpetrator shot people and then fled.

Law enforcement officers are working to establish the identity of the shooter.

In total, six tickets were sold for the session, and the police are trying to track the buyers.

“There are currently no active searches, and we have no information about the suspect,” emphasizes Kurubakalis.

A cinema goer who attended another show with her brother and son told NBC that the film was stopped and viewers were asked to leave the theater.

"We were asked to leave:" An emergency has occurred, leave as soon as possible. "

We were scared because we knew nothing at all about what was happening.

We were just scared, ”she said.

The site worker noted that no one heard the shots during the session.

She also emphasized that carry-on baggage is checked at the cinema, but the weapon, for some reason, was not found.

The management of the Regal Theaters network issued a statement, which indicated that it was cooperating with the investigation.

“We received confirmation that there was an incident at the Corona Crossings cinema last night.

We are currently working with local law enforcement to investigate.

Our top priority is the safety of our guests and staff, ”the statement said.

Earlier there were several incidents related to the films of the "Doomsday" franchise.

In October 2018, a theme party based on the third tape in the series was held in one of the California nightclubs.

During the event, seven participants received gunshot wounds.

Later, the police said that the incident was incorrectly called a mass shooting, since it began with a conflict and a fight, in which several people participated.

In the summer of 2018 at the screening of the painting “Judgment Night.

The Beginning ”in Texas, two spectators had a fight over a seat in a movie theater.

One of them stabbed the other in the stomach, the victim survived.

In 2016, in Indianapolis, Indiana, then 19-year-old Jonathan Cruz killed three people in four days, robbed one and threatened several more.

Shortly before that, he sent his girlfriend a message that he was carrying out a "sweep": "Now I have a judgment every night."

This was seen as a nod to the first film in the franchise.

Following the results of the trial, Cruz was sentenced to three life sentences.

In 2015, some media reported that the riots in Baltimore began with calls for a "purge" (as the original title of the film is translated) on social media.

Users did mention the "purge" in their Baltimore records.

However, other publications noted that the calls did not receive sufficient support to be considered meaningful.

The first film in the Doomsday franchise was released in 2013.

According to the plot, in order to cope with crime, unemployment and other social problems, the US authorities (the so-called "New Founding Fathers") once a year for 12 hours allow citizens to commit any crimes with impunity.

The victims are considered sacrifices for the common good.

The premiere of the fifth film in the series entitled "Judgment Night Forever" took place in the summer of 2021.
