The fourth wave of the coronavirus is hitting decidedly hard.
Nearly 1,000 patients sick with a severe form of Covid-19 were treated this Wednesday in critical care services, according to health data attesting to an outbreak of contaminations.
Critical care services are welcoming 992 patients, up from 978 the day before, and 859 a week ago, with 91 new admissions since Tuesday.
The number of hospitalizations continued, for its part, an increase that began only a few days ago, with 7,208 patients on Wednesday against 7,137 on Tuesday.
The increase is more marked for the figures over one week, which smooth the trend.
There are 2,511 hospitalizations, including 511 critical care admissions, over seven days, against respectively 1,554 hospitalizations and 298 intensive care admissions a week ago.
The relative slowness of the daily progression of these figures contrasts with the surge in cases of contamination observed for more than two weeks.
Fourth wave
A new record was broken on Wednesday with 27,934 positive cases recorded (26,871 Tuesday), a high since April 28.
The positivity rate remained stable at 4.1%.
The Minister of Health Olivier Véran had reported on Tuesday a "decorrelation between hospitalizations and diagnoses", explaining it by the fact that thanks to the vaccination, "there are fewer patients hospitalized for severe forms of Covid in our country than there were in previous waves ”.
The disease has claimed 40 patients in 24 hours in hospital, for a total of 111,768 deaths since the start of the pandemic.
