Paco Plaza
returns with another of his horror films "a la española".
After hits like the
REC
zombie saga
or the story based on true events
of
Verónica,
on October 22 will premiere
La abuela
, of which EL MUNDO premieres its first trailer.
The movie
tells the story of Susana, forced to return from Paris, where she works as a model, to take care of her grandmother after suffering a stroke.
What begins as a quiet coexistence with the woman who was for her as a mother, ends up turning into a paranormal nightmare.
The script is written by
Carlos Vermut
, who won the Golden Shell of San Sebastián with the peculiar
Magical Girl,
and who has directed films such as
Who will sing,
with the participation of Najwa Nimri.
Almudena Amor and Vera Valdez will give life to the two protagonists of the film: the first makes her debut as an actress, adding this project to another that will be released in the autumn by Fernando León de Aranoa;
Valdez is a Brazilian actress known for being Coco Chanel's fetish model
.
Paco Plaza was born in Valencia in 1973. He graduated in Information Sciences from the University of Valencia and from the ECAM (Escuela Superior de Cine y Audiovisuales de la Comunidad de Madrid) and began his career with some short films such as
Abuelitos
or
Romepepié
, that opened doors for him at different festivals. In 2001, his first feature film,
The Children of Abraham
, received the Great European Fantastic Film Award at the Sitges Film Festival;
however it was the
REC
trilogy
that catapulted him to fame
as a chilling director.
He continued that renown through the story of Verónica, the young Vallecana who played the
ouija board
cost her her life
: a production that received 7 Goya nominations.
His latest film moved away from the horror genre, but it remained unsettling;
Together with Luis Tosar, he premiered
Quien a Hiermata
, an original way of tackling drug trafficking in Galicia.
Now he returns to fiction with
La Abuela
, a film that promises, at least, a good dose of scares.
