Bona Film Group, which has filmed "Operation Mekong", "Operation Red Sea", "Emergency Rescue", "Heroes of Fire", "Captain of China" and other films to create "civilian heroes", took the initiative to ask Ying to shoot "Chinese Doctor", and successfully directed the "Chinese Doctor" before. The director of "Captain of China" Liu Weiqiang has become the "one choice" in the eyes of Yu Dong, chairman of Bona Pictures.
In March 2020, after receiving Yu Dong's invitation, Liu Weiqiang agreed without hesitation.

Liu Weiqiang said that this feeling of helplessness is completely different from preparing other movies. “I didn’t think about how to shoot, so I kept reading the information.
