Hysterics

by Sophie Adriansen, published on June 9, 2021 by Éditions Charleston.

Her favorite quote:

Men who do not know anything about pregnancy have this excuse, those who live with a pregnant woman do not.

No longer have any.

Sami himself thought that a rounded belly was volume, only volume, since Clémentine carried Agathe he knows that it is also weight and discomfort so he gives up his seat as soon as the opportunity arises.

Why this book?

  • Because this book is a story of women for women, but not only.

It's a feminist novel, of course, but it's also a novel that highlights flaws.

Perfection does not exist but with this book, each woman is unique and each woman can find herself.

But men can also find themselves and recognize themselves in this story.

  • Because it's a choral novel.

Each chapter is approached from a different point of view. We follow three sisters with such different backgrounds and yet linked by one and the same uterus. We get attached to each of them in a different way. We understand them, sometimes not, but we admire their life choices. Each of them reflects a part of the woman that I am.

  • Because the novel deals with motherhood but also with this organ that is the uterus.

Who has not experienced a curiosity around motherhood or sexuality at a younger age?

Who has not dared to talk about it?

    Who dared to do it?

This is one of the strong points of this novel.

We discover different maternities but also a particular vision of the uterus.

Was I surprised by the different reactions?

    Sure !

But that didn't stop me from understanding why.

These women really made me think about this subject.

  • Because this novel revolves around a family.

Family is something sacred to me.

Beyond seeing sisters with different characters, I saw sisters who suffer in their own way and who over time learn to discover and understand each other.

  • Because Sophie Adriansen's pen is very addictive and engaging.

I struggled to let go of the novel.

I really wanted to know the rest.

I also liked this slightly bittersweet, slightly sour at times mixture, which highlights many thoughts without prompting the reader to agree or disagree.

We are not hiding anything and that is nice!

The essentials in 2 minutes

The plot.

Three women have a different relationship with the uterus.

Noémie despairs of getting pregnant and discovers that she is ill with this organ from which she expects everything.

Clémentine, reconnects with a memory that only her uterus has remembered, which will turn her life upside down.

And Diane struggles to create the dream nest for her children ...

Characters.

The three sisters: Noémie, Clémentine and Diane.

But also their respective spouses: Antoine, Sami and Romain.

Not to mention their parents who revolve around them.

Places.

The story takes place in France, mainly in the places where the sisters and their parents live.

The time.

The story takes place in our time.

The author.

Sophie Adriansen is the author of around forty works in general and children's literature.

In her contemporary novels, she speaks in particular of women's freedoms and questions the reader on this subject.

This book was read with a

lot of surprise.

I immediately got hooked on the story and the way it is told.

I loved following the three sisters so different and yet so linked without knowing it.

I enjoyed following their questions and their outcomes.

A real nugget!
