Baolige has been working at the Yuanshangdu site since 2010.

According to his memories, before the successful application, the protection was carried out by a single department led by the Cultural Heritage Bureau; since the successful application, multi-sectoral linkages such as public security, grassland supervision, and local breeding farms have gradually formed here, and the protection has been actively participated by the society. The working mode of air defense, material defense, and technical defense is becoming more and more perfect.

In the assessment of the protection and management of China's cultural heritage in 2019, the Yuanshangdu Site received the highest five-star rating.

"We have a deep feeling for this place. A grass, a tree, and a small piece of rubble are our treasures." Summer is the time when the Yuanshangdu site has the most tourists, and Baolige and its partners are there at 5 o'clock in the morning every day. Came here and went home at 8 o'clock in the evening.

"This is not only our job responsibilities, but also the concerns that we can't let go of."

At the Yuanshangdu site, the herdsmen are also important guardians.

In order to protect the natural heritage and local ecology, since 2010, more than 200 herdsmen have moved out of the heritage conservation area one after another.

340 modern tombs were removed, nursery stock bases, starch factories, etc. were demolished, roads within the site were closed, and the area of farmland returned to grassland exceeded 10,000 mu.

In 2012, they also spontaneously formed a horseback cultural relics protection (fire) team to patrol nearly 30,000 acres of grassland in the outer protection area of the Yuanshangdu Site.

Spring and autumn are the key seasons for grassland fire prevention. There is snow on the road and the wind is still strong.

But people have no complaints or regrets.

Currently, the 44th session of the World Heritage Conference is going on in Fuzhou, and more than 40 projects around the world have been submitted for application for heritage.

In the eyes of industry insiders, the honor of "world heritage" is very important, which means more attention, greater investment and better protection.

Yuan Shangdu is a good example.

The editor also learned during the interview that the locals also have high expectations for the Yuanshangdu site. After all, this is the only world cultural heritage in Inner Mongolia, and its importance is self-evident.

Now that Yuanshang has just applied for a legacy for 9 years, what's the future?

We will wait and see.
