Britney Spears has been fighting since June to get rid of her father Jamie Spears' guardianship, who has controlled her finances since 2008.

The Los Angeles Supreme Court states on its website that an application to appoint a new guardian of Britney Spears' assets has been received, and the nominee is California-based auditor Jason Rubin.

Britney Spears' new lawyer Mathew Rosengart argues in the application that a court recently considered her sufficiently sane to choose her own lawyer, and that she should therefore also be able to nominate her guardian, according to The New York Times.

Struggling to gain power over their economy

Recently, the star has expressed a desire to gain power over his money and assets, and has described the guardianship as offensive.

In addition to the legal battle, Britney Spears also campaigns via social media, where her situation has been widely heard by the public.

Guardianship was introduced in 2008 due to concerns about Spears' mental health.

In late June, she gave an emotional testimony in court in Los Angeles about how guardianship has hurt her.

The next court hearing will take place on September 29 and further hearings are planned for December.
