[Explanation] Walking from the Jinsha River rushing down the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to Benzilan, it suddenly turned a corner, and it became a unique scenery with three parallel rivers, a world natural heritage.

[Explanation] Recently, a reporter from China News Service traveled along the Yunnan-Tibet Highway to Benzilan Town, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, an important town on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road. The Yunnan-Tibet Highway, a highway that was once used to aid Tibet, is now It has become a road of open development and tourism revitalization.

The Guozhuang dance and Tibetan clothes in Benzilan are the best witnesses.

[Explanation] Nowadays, the traditional Tibetan dance Guozhuang Dance has become a kind of "square dance" for local people of all ethnic groups to express joy and enjoy the time during festivals and farm slack.

Guozhuang clothing is the clothing worn by Tibetan people when they dance the Guozhuang dance. 57-year-old Timi has been learning Tibetan clothing making since the age of 16, and now runs a store specializing in Tibetan clothing in Benzilan.

[Explanation] Timi said that Benzilan Tibetan clothing is bright in color and cleverly matched. It retains the traditional Tibetan clothing style and incorporates elements such as Baotou and pleated skirts of the Pumi, Mongolian, and Yi nationalities.

Because of its complicated pure manual craftsmanship, the production skills of Guozhuang clothing were once faced with no one to pass on.

  [Concurrent] Non-genetic inheritor Timi

I have been doing Guozhuang clothing for more than 40 years. For young people in this society, few learn this craft because it is very hard.

[Explanation] With the changes of the times, more people are beginning to realize the importance of inheriting traditional culture. Now the Benzilan Guozhuang clothing has been included in the Diqing Prefecture Intangible Cultural Heritage List.

[Explanation] The young Bian Zong formally inherited the mantle of his mother Timi and became the inheritor of Tibetan clothing production.

Because of the Yunnan-Tibet Highway, Bian Zong used to go out to work and get in touch with the outside world.

After returning to her mother, she had a new understanding and creativity in Tibetan clothing.

[Concurrent] Bian Zong, Tibetan clothing craftsman

I’ve come back in recent years, and now it’s the third year I started making (Guozhuang clothing). After making it, my mother’s thoughts will still differ a lot. My thought is that because this clothing is more traditional, it’s only for holidays. , I will only wear it on the festive days of the New Year. My thought is whether it can be made into the kind (clothing) that we can wear in our daily life, and can be worn in a relatively simple life.

[Explanation] Not only did Timi pass on his handicraft to his daughters and apprentices, he also opened training classes in the town to let more people learn how to make gorgeous Guozhuang costumes.

  [Concurrent] Non-genetic inheritor Timi

As a non-genetic inheritor of Tibetan costumes (making), I do my best. I want to do a handicraft training in the near future. It is still in preparation. In our community, a town, there are less than 50 people who sign up. Those who want to learn crafts can come Learn, teach them crafts, and teach them the craftsmanship, then make them in their own homes, and then give them to me after doing them. This can increase their income.

[Explanation] From the old tea-horse road post station to today's lively town along the Yunnan-Tibet Highway, Benzilan has also moved forward with the development of the times. Tradition is not conservative, but innovation is not forgotten.

Here, traditional culture is glowing with a different kind of brilliance.
