Heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain caused flooding again early Monday evening in southern Bavaria.

According to the police headquarters in Kempten, the fire brigade in the Sonthofen and Burgberg area (both in the Oberallgäu district) had to move out to pump out the cellar.

Individual floods and fire brigade operations were also reported from southern Upper Bavaria, as reported by the Rosenheim Police Headquarters.

According to the German Weather Service, the storm front moved north over all of Swabia towards Upper Bavaria and Franconia.

The extent of the flooding could not be foreseen at first.

At the weekend, severe storms had raged, especially in Upper Bavaria - in Eglfing in the Weilheim-Schongau district, according to the police on Monday, a person was even killed.

The 57-year-old hunter was sitting on a high seat in a forest on Sunday afternoon when, according to previous knowledge, it was knocked down by a gust of wind.

Although first aiders and the rescue service immediately looked after the victim, he died of his injuries at the scene of the accident.

According to the police, a mudslide had covered a road with mud near Rosenheim.

Trees had fallen and streets and cellars were flooded.

In the districts of Weilheim-Schongau, Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, there were a total of over 100 weather-related missions, as the fire brigade announced.

Two people were reportedly slightly injured when a tree fell on their car.

There were also incidents in northern Germany.

Individual heavy rainfalls moved over Schleswig-Holstein on Monday.

In Travemünde, the fire brigade was deployed on several occasions.

Unlike on Sunday, however, no major damage was reported by the afternoon.

For the next few days, the DWD largely gave the all-clear: it should cool down a bit, sunshine and rain showers alternate.

According to the fire brigade, 44 cellars had to be pumped empty.

Several streets were under water because the sluices could not divert the water masses quickly enough.

On late Sunday afternoon, it had cracked and poured, especially in the Segeberg district.

The fire brigade had to move out 150 times, as the district fire brigade association announced on Monday.

Kaltenkirchen was particularly affected. There were 80 missions there, as the responsible regional control center announced. "It started around 5:30 pm and then really every minute," said a spokesman for the control center. Mainly cellars or garages were filled up or streets were flooded. According to the police and the rescue control center, there were no injuries. Two care facilities, a school and a sports hall were also affected. A street was washed away and damaged.

In Struvenhütten there was a water ingress in a larger building, where the technical relief organization (THW) came with a high-performance pump.

In Oersdorf, the Kattenbek river overflowed its banks and several properties were flooded.

In Lentförden, the storm knocked down eight large oak trees with a trunk diameter of 150 centimeters in a street.

It took hours to clear away the trees.

The German Weather Service (DWD) had warned of locally extreme heavy rain in north and north-east Germany on Monday.

According to the weather service, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Hamburg, northern Brandenburg and a narrow strip in northeastern Lower Saxony were affected.

At the same time, meteorologists also expected severe thunderstorms with rain amounts of up to 40 liters per square meter as well as storms and hail in parts of southern Germany. This was especially true for southern Bavaria and eastern parts of the neighboring state of Baden-Württemberg.
