The statements of a member of the Royal Committee for the Modernization of the Political System, Wafaa Al-Khadra, in which she criticized the method of slaughtering sacrificial animals, sparked a wide wave of popular anger in Jordan, which prompted her to resign, according to a number of local newspapers.

According to the Jordanian newspaper, Al-Rai, the resignation of Al-Khadra, who has been in business for less than a month, was accepted due to the great popular anger over her statements she made on her official Facebook page, where she said, “The holiday deserves to be celebrated when we make a form of life.” Or we save it from the futility and chaos of survival, not necessarily when we kidnap a life or exterminate it and sacrifice it because of rituals that lack mercy and compassion.”

And she added, "Slaughtering sheep and offering a sacrifice is not justified, and Islam is innocent of this ritual in an era in which living contexts, concepts of environmental balance, legal rituals, and environmental contract have changed."

Hundreds of Jordanians expressed their anger at Al-Khadra's statements, to the extent that they demanded her resignation in social media posts, which made the hashtag #dismiss_wafa_al-Khadra topped Twitter in Jordan.

And tweets on the green Twitter attacked, saying, "Whoever does not like our religion and the constitution of our country and attacks our laws, we also do not want him."

Other tweets accused Al-Khadra's statements of "insulting more than a billion Muslims."
