The national funeral of assassinated Haitian President Jovenel Moïse began on Friday morning July 23 in the outskirts of Cap-Haitien. A ceremony placed under high security, in the private residence of the Moïse family. The coffin of the president assassinated on July 7, 2021, at his home in Port-au-Prince, displayed on an esplanade, decorated with flowers, was covered with the national flag and the presidential scarf. The remains were guarded by soldiers of the Armed Forces.
The president's widow, Martine Moïse, seriously injured in the attack, is present, her arm in a sling after being treated in a hospital in Florida. Representatives of foreign delegations, the diplomatic corps and members of the government follow one another to offer him their condolences. Jovenel Moïse will be buried alongside his father Étienne Moïse, who died in 2020.
A funeral that awakens a certain rivalry
