• The Landes are maintaining the restrictive measures in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus, which is very strong on the Atlantic coast.

  • “Gatherings, meetings or activities on public roads or in places open to the public” with more than 20 people simultaneously remain prohibited, as do “open-air festivals”.

  • The incidence rate is particularly high among 15-45 year olds.

Containing the spread of the coronavirus as much as possible is the goal of the Landes health authorities.

The department, faced with "a rapid and significant change in the health situation", decided Thursday to extend until August 4 the restrictive measures it had already maintained to stop the spread of Covid-19.

In this department, where tourists flock to the beaches every summer, “gatherings, meetings or activities on public roads or in places open to the public” with more than 20 people simultaneously remain prohibited, as do “outdoor festivals” , "Shows and concerts with the public standing and in establishments open to the public", announced the prefecture and the ARS Nouvelle-Aquitaine in a press release.

Alcohol on public roads and amplified music prohibited

The prefecture also maintains the maximum level of 5,000 people seated in establishments open to the public as well as the ban on consuming alcohol "on public roads and in public outdoor spaces" in the most touristic towns. It is also prohibited to broadcast amplified music there. Finally, the obligation to wear a mask is maintained in the densest areas of these same tourist communities.

The department justifies the extension of these measures by "a sharply increasing incidence rate" to 124.3 per 100,000 inhabitants, almost three times greater than on July 15 when it was 44.4.

A rate "particularly high among 15-45 years" at 321.7.

"This deterioration of the health situation is mainly explained by the mixing of populations in the middle of the summer season, by the relaxation of respect for barrier gestures and by the very rapid spread of the very contagious Delta variant", estimates the prefecture.

Our file on Covid-19

On June 30, unlike the rest of mainland France, the Landes had been the only department to extend the last confinement restrictions.

A week later, the department lifted most of those restrictions, except those it extended again on Thursday.
