A 50-year-old woman was stabbed several times by her ex-companion, in the middle of the street in Montargis (Loiret), Wednesday, announced the public prosecutor, Loïc Abrial.

The vital prognosis of the victim was engaged Wednesday evening, according to the prosecution.

The attack took place in a parking lot in the city center, "shortly after 6:00 p.m.", according to the magistrate.

The man, aged 49, then "fled by car", before being arrested by a patrol of the gendarmerie near Gien.

He was taken into custody for attempted murder, as part of the criminal investigation of flagrance opened by the Montargis prosecutor's office.

The investigation was entrusted to the Montargis police station.
