Nasser R. was silent at the beginning of the process.

The 44-year-old man, who belongs to a notorious large Arab family in Berlin, is charged with injuring three Chechens with batons, knives and iron bars in the Gesundbrunnen district in November together with at least nine other perpetrators.

One day later, R., together with relatives and friends, allegedly attacked two other Chechens out of a crowd of around 20 people.

A 24-year-old man testified that strange men suddenly knocked him down in a parking lot.

The attacks on the Chechens, which were apparently unknown to the perpetrators from the clan milieu, are considered an act of revenge after a group of Chechens had previously attacked a snack bar in the Neukölln district, which is counted as part of the R. family empire.

They hit guests there with hammers.

Since both groups mobilized supporters nationwide, the Berlin police feared an escalating gang war. The public prosecutor said that Nasser R. did not allow himself to be deterred from the crime by an electronic ankle cuff, which he wore after serving a prison sentence of several years.
