Korean musical world, which was in unprecedented crisis due to the prolonged Corona 19, will open the door to take a leap forward with the launch of the Korea Musical Producers Association next month. Today (22nd), we will be with the first president of the Korea Musical Producers Association Shin Chun-su, the first president of the Association.

Q. Corona spread… How big is the impact on the musical market?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of Korea Musical Production Company: In a nutshell, speaking from the beginning, the employment world is in a crisis of despair. So, musicals that have grown well so far are collapsing in an instant, and the musical ecosystem is in great danger due to this endless corona, and compared to 19, the number of productions has decreased by about 65%, and the amount of damage to performance sales has also decreased. It's about 140 billion. We are in a very difficult situation, and freelance actors and staff are in a very difficult situation.]

Q. Was it the only performance in the world that lasted?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of Korea Musical Producers Association: On the one hand, it is very positive, but if you listen closely, Broadway's production environment is quite different from ours, but we have limited runs. However, Broadway has an open run and if the performance is difficult or in such a situation, we can negotiate and stop the performance, but we do not have such a system in place, so we are doing our best to maintain the performance. Keeping the production cost low is our own culture and I think it is something that should be evaluated later.]

Q. The Korea Musical Producers Association was launched… What is the purpose?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of Korea Musical Producers Association: First of all, it was launched because we needed new momentum for the development of Korean musicals while overcoming the crisis in the musical world due to Corona 19 and preparing a donation concert for actors and staff in difficulties. So, when it is launched, first of all, after consulting with the government to restore the somewhat collapsed ecosystem, and then to increase the competitiveness of Korean musicals to grow the market, so I am thinking of making an effort now to make K-musical stand tall as the center of Asia.]

Q. What is the social safety net for small actors and staff?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of Korea Musical Producers Association: It is desperately needed, but Broadway has a union and union, so it is receiving the minimum rights and protection, but our musical, with a short history, is not doing well yet. There are parts that we are trying to protect and produce in a balanced way, and most importantly, I think that it is the best way to give them the opportunity to work so much under the support of the government.]

Q. 20th anniversary of the establishment of a musical production company… if you look back

[Shin Chun-soo / President of the Korea Musical Producers Association: I really feel like I just ran forward.

I made a lot of works and tried various things, but I think it was a happy time when I was really passionate about it without fear of failure.

But looking at the past 20 years, I think there were 20 years of the actors, staff, Woody Company family, and the audience who loved me.

Another thing, I think it's very important that I debuted as a lead pro on Broadway for 20 years, and I think that with good assets and this, I will have to make better works in the future.]

Q. About 40 works over 20 years…

What would you say is a representative work?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of the Korea Musical Producers Association: Jekyll and Hyde, who have the best box office success in Korea, who have established themselves as a musical producer, Man of La Mancha and Sweeney Todd, who have been recognized for their work, and Dracula, who are currently performing.

The story of my life, which has been loved for a long time, although small, there are works like this, and most importantly, the failed works that many people have not remembered stimulated the perfection and achievement of the work, so it is a very important work for me. .]

Q. Do you have any dreams or wishes that you would like to achieve in the future?

[Shin Chun-soo / President of Korea Musical Producers Association: First of all, I hope that the most important thing is to make good works and receive love. And I want to make competitive works that are also recognized on Broadway. And since I have received a lot of love so far, I want to become a person who can give a lot of love again. And before being a good producer, I want to be a good father and a good person.]
