With

Skam

of course, but also

Mental

,

Derby Girl

and

Stalk

, France TV Slash has established itself as the platform for teenage series, and striking proof that a French-style

teen show is

possible.

While

Skam

and

Mental

approached all subjects, even difficult ones, with kindness,

Stalk

showed the dark side of youth.

Available in full on Friday July 26, the

Girlsquad

series

, created by Estelle Surbranche and Sébastien Fabioux, explores a similar path, in chiaroscuro, and shares the same role played by social networks in the lives and relationships of teens.

A teenage thriller

It's summer on the west coast, the start of evenings on the beach, surf lessons, fleeting love affairs, well-framed photos on Instagram… Unfortunately a stalker, “The Voyeur”, begins to harass the girls on social networks.

Worse, the day after a party, the young Anaïs is found on the side of the road, in a coma.

What happened to him ?

Is there a connection to the mysterious newcomer Billie?

Sorority to the rescue

More than

Stalk

, the

Girlsquad

team

claims the influence of teenage and American thrillers

Pretty Little Liars

and

Riverdale

.

But if the secrets and twists are the engine, sometimes artificial, of the story, the heart of the series remains the band of girls of the title.

Chloe, Ruby, Sofia, Constance, Billie… They offer portraits of diverse, complex, rich young women, unfortunately some of them served by an approximate acting game.

Still, the series exudes a real spirit of sorority, described as not necessarily going without saying but being more than necessary in a society always sexist, patriarchal and violent towards women in general, and teenage girls in particular.
